Active Places works from a single database, which holds information on sports facilities throughout Northern Ireland. It includes information on a wide range of sports facilities, including Local Authority leisure facilities, school sports facilities, commercial and club sites. Active Places contains information on specific facility details such as where the facility is, its size, opening times, contact numbers, and activities.
The Active Places register is accessible to the general public, free of charge, via the Web, to provide information on details of sports facilities in their area. We intend that this will help achieve our target of 70% of the population undertaking 30 minutes of exercise, five days a week by 2020. The Active Places register will play a role in helping people to achieve that aim, by providing them with information on where to take part.
It will also be accessible to local authorities, national governing bodies of sport, government departments and lottery distributors to provide more detailed facility information to help produce strategies for facility provision and guide investment.
